FEEDBACK AFTER session 02/20/14


  • Words that came up in class:
    • nature Remember to pronounce it correctly /ˈneɪtʃə(r)/ and not to use the article in front. However, remember that you always use the article with words such as the environment or the countryside.
    • compassionate as a synonym of sympathetic
    • PRONUNCIATION Remember to pronounce words like mountain /ˈmaʊntɪn/ and fountain /ˈfaʊntɪn/ correctly
    • Revise the difference between isolated and insulated
    • SPELLING The spelling of Alzheimer's disease
    • FALSE FRIENDS Remember that familiar is a false friend I'm a familiar person and so is actual
    • breadwinner
    • Talk about family gatherings rather than appointments
    • You work as a teacher not like a teacher
    • Remember it is not possible to change prepositions in idioms or set phrases such as music to my ears not music for my ears

    • Remember to capitalize English 
    • The pronunciation of chocolate /ˈtʃɒklət/
    • Revise the pronunciation /ˌedjʊˈkeɪʃ(ə)n/ and meaning of the word Education. In the family context, you can always use upbringing
    •  The difference in meaning between couple (two people) and partner (one person)
  • Revise the patterns with get used to, be used to, usually and used to, from Advanced Level I.
  • Also, remember that word order in English is very strict and you don't want to change it: 
    • 1 Subject
    • 2 Verb
    • 3 Object
